How to Handle High-VFA Latex

Manufacturer: Due to the shortage of latex with our suppliers, we have been forced to look for alternative suppliers. The new supplier tell us that they can offer us latex with a VFA NUMBER higher than our specification.

Is it possible to dilute the latex with another batch with lower VFA Number?

John Woon (Senior Latex Consultant): The VFA Number is only marginally above your specification. There is no need for blending of the latex suggested by you for the time being.

However, you must insist that your new supplier adheres to your specification in the future. You should consume the latex as soon as possible because prolonged storage might result in further bacterial growth.

In the meantime, please ensure that other parameters of the specification such as MST and coagulum content are satisfactory. Also, please monitor the latex pH to ensure that it does not drop to below 10.00.
