Premature failure of latex thread

Manufacturer:We are latex thread manufacturer. We have received complaints from customers who dye their garments with elastic waistbands and find the waistbands failing by their own customers after a short period of use. Please help us find the causes of this problem.

JohnWoon:Many people do not realize that both the dyes and the dyeing process could be detrimental to the rubber and hence service life of the rubber thread and for that matter, other "rubberized" products such as bath mats.

The symptoms you'd probably encounter are the loss of strength and modulus resulting in stickiness and eventual brittleness. The choice of dyes is therefore important as some of these might contain transition metals that could catalyze the oxidation of the rubber.

Dyeing process should be controlled to have as low a temperature as possible with a pH as close to neutral as possible because washing rubber products with hot water at alkaline pH could lead to premature loss of antioxidants.
