What Coagulant To Use For Maximum Transparency?
Manufacturer:
Why can't I get good transparency with either calcium nitrate or calcium chloride as the coagulant for our latex dipping? What coagulant do you recommend for this purpose?
John Woon (Senior Latex Consultant):
The reason for what you observed is very simple. Calcium salts when used as the coagulant would form rubber-insoluble soaps in your product. This accounts for the opacity.
For maximum transparency, you should select a coagulant that forms rubber-soluble soaps (fatty acids). CHA acetate is a good example although it is a weaker coagulant compared to calcium salts.
