Manufacturer: We have just commissioned our chlorination system in our factory. However, the finished products exhibit glossy and blocking surfaces i.e. lacking the lubricity we require. Samples of our good and bad products have been sent to you for your study. I am agreeable to your offer to write me a report on the chlorination of rubber products.
John Woon (Senior Latex Consultant): There are a few stages of
chlorination of latex dipped products. Your samples showed that you have yet to reach the final stage of the chlorination process. You have
to complete all the stages otherwise you might not achieve the
lubricity required.
Usually,
the early stage is the removal of the rubber tackiness followed by a subsequent stage when the rubber becomes glossy (shiny) before reaching the final stage when the shine has disappeared.
If the gloves appear shiny, the chlorination is not yet completed.
My full report on the details of chlorination of natural rubber products has been sent to you separately. In the report, I have explained how you could easily achieve the lubricity of the rubber surface.
