Biodegradable Wetting Agent

Manufacturer: We are looking for a cost effective wetting agent for our dipping processes that is biodegradable. Can you please suggest one?
John Woon (Senior Latex Consultant): I suggest you try a non-ionic of the type based on ethylene oxide/fatty alcohol condensates with 16 to 20 moles of EO. You should select one with a Cloud Point just below the temperature of your composite or mixes at which most non-ionic surfactants would perform best.

Prepare a 10 or 20% solution of the wetting agent before use. It is advisable to determine the surface tension (dyne/cm) of a 0.1% solution. This should be around 37.0.
It goes without saying that the wetting agent you select should also have a low tendency to foam.

A Rubber and Latex Technologist, John Woon began his professional education in Polymer Science and Technology (Plastics and Rubber Technology) in 1968. He continued his study and training in England and worked for International Synthetic Rubber Company Ltd (Eni), UK in 1970's.
He joined the world's biggest producer of Prevulcanised Natural Rubber Latex and specialty latex compounds, Revertex Malaysia (Now a key member of the global Synthomer family) in 1981 and was actively involved in the marketing of a wide range of synthetic resins, polymers (for the coating and adhesive industries) and world renowned specialty natural rubber latex and compounds. He headed the Technical Department of the Natural Rubber Division of Revertex Malaysia until 2004.
Now a Latex and Rubber Consultant with satisfied clients across the globe, he is a member of Plastics and Rubber Institute, Malaysia, ABE(UK), ICM(UK) and had also been a member in ASTM (International) Committee D11.

9) John, I have such faith in your system. Anyone can take a full 8 weeks to check your report on recommended remedial actions. Put it to work in his factory that produce any latex dipped products. In the incredibly unlikely event that he still doesn’t make any headway, I’d volunteer to pay him the money that he has invested in your report!
