PVC Plastisol Sticking to Substrates

Manufacturer: We are using PVC plastisol for casting and dipping for various products including gloves. Our problem is the occasional tendency of the products to adhere to some substrates such as the moulds. What shall we do?

John Woon (Senior Latex Consultant): Plasticized PVC does have some inherent tackiness problem. I suggest you add some lubricants to the compound such as metallic stearates, stearic acid, waxes and silicone. These should improve your demoulding process.

A Rubber and Latex Technologist, John Woon began his professional education in Polymer Science and Technology (Plastics and Rubber Technology) in 1968. He continued his study and training in England and worked for International Synthetic Rubber Company Ltd (Eni), UK in 1970's.
He joined the world's biggest producer of Prevulcanised Natural Rubber Latex and specialty latex compounds, Revertex Malaysia (Now a key member of the global Synthomer family) in 1981 and was actively involved in the marketing of a wide range of synthetic resins, polymers (for the coating and adhesive industries) and world renowned specialty natural rubber latex and compounds. He headed the Technical Department of the Natural Rubber Division of Revertex Malaysia until 2004.
Now a Latex and Rubber Consultant with satisfied clients across the globe, he is a member of Plastics and Rubber Institute, Malaysia, ABE(UK), ICM(UK) and had also been a member in ASTM (International) Committee D11.

9) John, I have such faith in your system. Anyone can take a full 8 weeks to check your report on recommended remedial actions. Put it to work in his factory that produce any latex dipped products. If he cannot solve at least some of their daily problems using your strategies and techniques, he should come to me and I’d show him what I’ve learnt from you! In the incredibly unlikely event that he still doesn’t make any headway, I’d volunteer to pay him the money that he has invested in your report!
10)John was extremely helpful in explaining the chemistry and processes involved in latex reactions.
