Resilience and Hysteresis of Nitrile Rubber

Manufacturer: We are manufacturing rubber products using Nitrile latex. Can you briefly tell us the difference between Nitrile and other rubbers especially natural rubber in terms of "Resilience" and "Hysterisis"?











John Woon (Senior Latex and Rubber Consultant): The resilience of nitrile rubber is lower than most of the other rubbers such as natural rubber, SBR and polychloroprene rubber but it is higher than that of butyl rubber. The Rebound Resilience of Nitrile is normally only about 40 to 50%. However, as the acylonitrile content is decreased, the resilience increases.

The hysterisis  properties if Nitrile rubber are poorer than natural rubber and SBR. Nitrile rubber products are therefore expected to have high heat built up on flexing.
