Detergent and Fat Resistant of Natural Rubber Latex Household Gloves

Manufacturer: We are manufacturer of latex household gloves. We would appreciate if you could let us know how we could increase the resistance against detergents and fats of our gloves.

 
John Woon (Senior Latex Consultant): For resistance to detergents, the curative formulation is very important. The trick is in the choice of accelerators. The accelerators that give the least tendency to solvent extraction (e.g. acetone and water) give the best results. (Please refer to my email to you on the right type of accelerators and recommended formulation to use).

As for the resistance against fats, a tighter cure would help but it would still be inferior to that of Nitrile or Polychloroprene gloves.

However, generally speaking, chlorination would also improve to a certain extent the resistance to both detergents and fats.

PA-80 Rubber for Extrusion

Manufacturer: We were advised to add "PA-80 Rubber" to our compound to improve our extrusion process for tubes and hoses. Would appreciate if you can tell us more about "PA-80 Rubber.











John Woon (Senior Latex Consultant): PA-80 Rubber is made from blending 80% prevulcanised latex with 20% unvulcanised latex followed by the usual coagulation process to give crumbs compressed into bale form.

If this is used in normal rubber compound for extrusion at,say, 30 to 80 phr, it gives the following positive results:

1) Lesser distotion to extruded shape (especially during steam vulcanisation)
2) Faster extrusion rate
3) Lesser die swell
4) Smoother surface
